Brett's Colonists' Guide and Cyclopaedia of Useful Knowledge, published by Henry Brett in Auckland, New Zealand. It was first published in 1883 and is one of the most famous books of colonial New Zealand.
It was written as the complete practical handbook for settlers. Its hundreds of pages cover clearing and breaking in land, farming, stock and dairying, building houses and fencing, gardening and orchards, home remedies, cookery and household management, all written for New Zealand conditions. It's a fascinating window into how our early settlers lived, and it's sought after by NZ history collectors and libraries.
In the original decorative brown cloth binding with gilt and black titles and corner ornaments. Fair condition for its age: the spine is frayed at the head and foot and the corners and edges are worn. I haven't checked inside for maps or plates, so please ask for more photos.
