Refer and earn

Junkie grows by word of mouth, so we share what we make. Bring someone to Junkie and you earn 50% of Junkie's margin on their account, every month, for as long as they're here. If we make 20% on something, you get 10%.

Step 1
Get your link
Every member has one, and it never expires. Make extra links for Instagram, your newsletter or your stall sign to see which works best.
Step 2
Share it with people you know
When someone clicks it we remember you, and once they join they're linked to you for good. Or invite them by email from your dashboard.
Step 3
Earn from their account, forever
You get 50% of what Junkie makes from them, for as long as they're on Junkie. Earnings are paid to your bank monthly once they're past a 30-day refund hold.

What you earn

Junkie's margin is what we actually keep from someone's account: their shop plan, buyer protection fees, boosts, listing credits and valuations, less GST, card fees and the AI costs of the listings they make. Sellers keep 100% of their sale price, so that's never part of it. Roughly:

When they pay forJunkie keepsLess GST and card feeMarginYou get
Shop plan, every monthAn op shop or dealer on the Shop plan
$39.00$6.44$32.56$16.28
Shop Plus, every monthA busy store on Shop Plus
$89.00$14.31$74.69$37.34
Charity shop plan, every monthCharities pay $19
$19.00$3.29$15.71$7.85
A $100 sale, buyer's sideBuyer protection is 5% + $0.99. The buyer's and the seller's referrers get half each
$5.99$3.94$2.05$0.51

So one op shop on the Shop plan earns you about $16.28 a month, every month. Listing credits mostly cover our AI costs, so they earn a little. Your dashboard shows the exact numbers for every payment.

How to refer well

Send it to people you actually know
One personal message to a friend who sells on Marketplace beats a hundred cold ones. It's also the law: in New Zealand you can only send marketing emails to people who'd expect to hear from you.
Pick the people who'll use it
You earn from what Junkie makes on their account, so the best people to refer are regular sellers, op shops, dealers and collectors. A shop on a monthly plan earns you something every month, for good.
Show, don't tell
Post a photo of something you sold or found on Junkie with your link. Real items and real prices get far more clicks than "sign up here".
Make a link for each place you share
Make separate links for Instagram, your newsletter or your market stall sign. Your reports then show which one actually brings people in.
Help them get their first listing up
People who list something in their first week stick around. Offer to help them snap and post their first piece.
Be straight about it
Tell people it's your referral link and that you get a share. Honest recommendations work better, and it's what the Fair Trading Act expects.

Messages that work

Copy one, make it sound like you, and send it from your own email or phone. On your dashboard these come with your link already filled in.

Works best for people who already sell bits and pieces and are sick of no-shows and scammers.

Subject Found a better spot to sell your old stuff

Hey,

You know how Marketplace is all lowballers, no-shows and "is this still available"? I've started using Junkie. It's a Kiwi site just for vintage, retro, antiques and handmade stuff.

The good bits:
- You keep 100% of your price. The buyer pays a small protection fee, not you.
- Snap a photo and it writes the listing and tells you what it's worth.
- Buyers pay through the site, so no dodgy bank transfers.

It's free to try: [your link]

Kia ora,

I've been buying and selling on Junkie, a New Zealand marketplace for vintage, retro and second-hand treasures, and thought of you.

Op shops and not-for-profits can apply for a free account. You get your own shop page, and you can list the good stuff that walks in the door by snapping a photo. Junkie writes the listing and suggests a fair price, so it doesn't eat your volunteers' time.

Happy to show you how I use it if that helps.

Hi,

Have you seen Junkie? It's a new NZ marketplace just for vintage, antiques, retro and handmade. No seller success fees: you keep 100% of your price and the buyer pays a small protection fee.

It does a few things I haven't seen elsewhere: it'll identify a piece from a photo of the backstamp, check what similar pieces have actually sold for, and you can set up a proper shop page. There are online market days too.

Here's my link if you want to try it: [your link]
